Burnout Begins Before Performance Breaks Down

Burnout Begins Before Performance Breaks Down

Burnout rarely starts with a collapse.

More often, it starts with incomplete recovery.

In private security, many professionals continue performing at a high level while recovery quietly falls behind. The warning signs are often subtle:

• Waking up tired despite sleeping
• Feeling mentally “on” long after a shift ends
• Increased irritability and reduced patience
• Declining motivation for routine tasks
• Time off no longer feeling restorative

The challenge is that performance can remain intact for a long time. From the outside, everything looks fine.

But functioning and recovering are not the same thing.

Recognising these early signs creates an opportunity to address recovery before fatigue becomes burnout.
