When Security Knowledge Exists but Isn't Connected

Knowledge about security is all over the industry.
Training courses.
Operational manuals.
Procedures.
Experience from the field.

There is however an interesting thing that occurs when you peep.
A lot of this knowledge is discontinuous.
The various different sectors impart different lessons.

Security professionals are trained in various countries differently.
The discipline of technology specialists is system oriented.
Investigators are concerned with intelligence.
Functional teams are concerned with processes.
Every region has expertise to be learned.

However, very minimal of this knowledge is somehow structured in a coherent discipline.
The majority of established occupations came up with organised bodies of knowledge.
Medical science was developed in medicine.
Engineering science developed out of engineering.
The issue of security has taken a very different turn though.

Which poses an interesting question.
In case security is becoming a profession indeed...
In what place is its knowledge system?
In what parts of real security practice have you observed this disintegration?
